As simple as it may seem, what I am about to write is very important in helping to keep your computer working properly. These guidelines apply especially if you have your computer in a dusty environment. Even though it is recommended that PC’s or even Mac’s be located in dust-free environments, it is not always possible, so these tips should be taken seriuosly:

  • Vacuum your tower at least once a month.

  • Completely pull down your PC/Mac once every 3 months and perform a complete blowout using vacuum and/or suction action.

  • Clean all fans: CPU, Motherboard, Chassis

  • Keep your computer covered when not in use.

  • Do not expose PC’s/Mac’s to extreme heat.

  • Keep computers away from moisture and direct exposure to sunlight.

  • Do not eat and drink near the machine. Spillage can occur at any time.

  • Clean off your monitor regularly.

  • Do not apply undue pressure to power cords.

  • Keep monitors away from magnetized materials as this can damage the color patterns on the monitor and even produce warped images.

  • Dust out floppy drives regularly.

  • Though this may seem to be common sense, there are times when people forget to do it: Always remove the plastic cover totally off the monitor once it is in use. Don’t merely pust it from over the viewable area. If this is not done, it can result in fire and the excessive heat generated can damage electronic components in the monitor.
  • This list cannot be exhausted, but these are some the more basic and important points to always remember.
