They are out there. Some are cleverly disguised, others are as plain as day light to see. They are warez sites. Warez sites are websites that sell, or offer for free, software, programs, etc. that have been cracked. Seems nice, doesn’t it? It sure does, at least until you visit one of them. The caution here is that the majority of them have viruses and adware and malware that can be easily downloaded to your computer without your knowledge. And you know how nasty malware and viruses can become!
I am speaking from first-hand experience when I tell you that, especially if you do not have anti-virus, anti-malware and firewall programs installed on your computer, you are in for a ride, literally! Many of the warez sites have popups that appear from out of nowhere (they seem to even beat the popup killer at times) that are sometimes very hard to close. And more often than not these popups are PG-20-odd stuff, or at least the images on some of them. That aside, the issue of viruses getting on your machine is very real. I have realized that sometimes the file you think you are getting is in fact a virus which, once opened, can spread through your system like wildfire.
Please realize that I am not bashing warez sites because they do serve a purpose. This is just a word of caution to anyone who uses them to be very wary and careful about what they are downloading. Ensure that you have at least an anti-virus program on your machine, then try to go a step further and put on a popup blocker and adware killer to be extra safe. Don’t end up finding yourself saying “If only I had done that sooner”.
