“I set the time just yesterday. Now, when I logged into Windows it is showing me the wrong time. I cannot understand as I keep having to do the same task everyday!” Ever had the same concern? There is really no mysterious reason why this is happening. In fact, a lot of computer users at some point in time or another have experienced the same problem. The proverbial questions then is: “What is causing my computer’s time to become incorrect even after I have set it numerous times?
Good question. And there is an even better answer. In the majority of cases, the CMOS battery needs to be changed. Yes, it’s as simple as that. The battery that stores allows the computers internal memory to CMOS and BIOS information also controls the saving of the correct time on your computer. If the battery is weak or dead or needs to be changed, the time will be displayed incorrectly. In fact, there are other important settings that will be lost if the battery is not good.
Note too that your computer will show an incorrect local time if you have not chosen the correct Time Zone in the Date and Time Properties or if you have the right time zone but have activated DST (Daylight Savings Time) and it does not apply to your country. If this is the case, simply select the correct Time Zone and check to see if the DST settings are correct.
So the next time you see your time showing incorrectly, try replacing the CMOS battery and see what a difference it makes. Or check your Date and Time Properties to ensure you have selected the correct Time Zone and enabled/disabled DST based on your country.
