It is true that some scanners come with drivers that are able to work only with some Operating Systems. For example, the IBM Idea Scan 2000 works only with the Windows 98/ME OS. But does that mean you will have to get a new scanner? No, it does not. There are other scanner drivers on the market that are compatible with it. If you should perform a search online for “IBM Idea Scan Scanner drivers Windows XP” for example, you are bound to find one that works. One that I know works is the drivers for the Primax scanner. In fact, any scanner that has ever been made in more cases than not have compatible drivers for the Operating System that they were not designed to work with.

So the next time you come upon a scanner that refuses to work with your Operating System, just do a search for compatible drivers. The process should not take you long. All you need to do is enter the name of the scanner you have as part of the search terms so that the search engine can return more favourable results to your query. It must be considered a process of elimination because there may be claims that a particular driver works, but when you try it it does not work. Just keep looking until you find the right one. Once you have found it, install it on your machine and start scanning away.
