There are many different DVD drives available on the market today. I have used a number of them and have found some to not live up to the expectations that they give the user. If you are not careful, a few of them may even spoil your discs. All in all, the majority of them do function as promised in the manual. I am just going to list a few of the DVD drives that are available now and state my experiences with the ones that I have used.

So here goes:

Benq - relatively good, good read speeds, good burn finishing
Lite-On - good, lives up to expectations
Pioneer - relatively good, good read speeds, good burn finishing
LG - good, fast read, good burn ability
Samsung - never tried
Toshiba - never tried
HP - relatively good, good read speeds, good burn finishing

There are other brands available, but these are the more common ones. Your experience with them may differ from mine based on the type of machine you have, the amount of memory (RAM), CPU speed, hard drive space, etc. Please do not base your decision to buy (or not) any of the above-mentioned solely on my opinions. Ask others who have used them how they feel about them. Then you can decide which to buy.
