There are times when we try to change the Home Page or Start Page on Internet Explorer. Each time we do so, it keeps reverting to the one that was there before. What can you do in a case like this? The best way to change the homepage so that there is no problem is by editing your registry location that contains the homepage data. If you are comfortable with editing your registry, you may proceed. If you are not comfortable editing the registry, ask someone else to do it for you. But be careful as one wrong move can cause your operating system to stop functioning properly. Just to ease your mind, I have done registry editing for many years now without a problem. Just follow these instructions and you should be okay:
1. Open registry editor by clicking on Start button then Run and type regedit then press OK.
2. Move the scrollbar all the way up till you see My Computer and then left click on it (if it is not already highlighted).
3. Click on Edit and then click Find..
4. Type in the URL of the website that you want to change (for example www.sitename.com where “sitename.com” is the domain name of the site) and then click Find Next.
5. You will now see a box saying Searching the registry… appear. Do not do anything while it is there on the screen.
6. Once the box disappears, you will see an area on the screen in the right hand pane highlighted that references the Start Page that you want to change. If the highlighted area does not say Start Page, then press F3 to continue searching until you see the words Start Page highlighted in the right pane.
7. Once you see Start Page highlighted, this is where you change the start page for Internet Explorer. Right click on Start Page and select Modify. A box will now pop up.
8. Under Value Data, change what is written there to the website you want to have as your home page, then click OK.
9. Press F3 again until you see Start Page appear again. Repeat steps 3 to 8 until a message appears saying Finished searching through the registry.
10. Close the Registry Editor by clicking File and then Exit.
11. Restart your computer.
Once Windows reloads and you open Internet Explorer, your selected Home Page should open.
