There are thousands of professional bodies all around the world that are part of associations that share similar interests. In the field of medicine, many associations exist that incorporate the various disciplines that make up that particular professional field. For example, medical doctors and practitioners have the medical doctors association and the junior doctors association. In the field of plastic surgery, there is the plastic surgery association known as the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, or AAFPRS. With a membership of over 2,700 facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons throughout the world, it is the world’s largest specialty association, having the distinguished privilege of holding an official seat in the American College of Surgeons board of governors and the AMA House of Delegates.
What makes the members of the AAFPRS unique is the fact that they are board certified surgeons who have received rigorous training in facial, head, and neck surgery. The range of certifications to their names include ophthalmology, dermatology, and plastic surgery. Some of the boards that they have been certified by include the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Medical Specialties. The members of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery all subscribe to a code of ethics that they stick to no mater what.
