WiFi – Wireless Technology

I begin with a definition of Wi-Fi according to Wikipedia: “Wi-Fi is a wireless technology brand owned by the Wi-Fi Alliance intended to improve the interoperability of wireless local area network products based on the IEEE 802.11 standards. Common applications for Wi-Fi include Internet and VoIP phone access, gaming, and network connectivity for consumer electronics such as televisions, DVD players, and digital cameras.” The different types of devices that are now using the Wi-FI technology increases daily. The ease with which devices can “talk’ to each other has dramatically improved communication between devices. Computers and laptops can talk to cell phones and so on.

Wi-fi technology is the future. It will mean the difference between effective transmission of information and the poor delivery of said info. If you look on it from a logical point of view, it would be impractical to run cables from the North Pole to the South Pole to facilitate communication. That is why wireless technology is important and will continue to play a valuable role in communication. It saves money and time and is more feasible. We can definitely look for even greater things to come as Wi-Fi gets more sophisticated.

Nokia Phones Are Easy To Use

Nokia is a name that has become synonymous with cellular phones that are of a good make. I have been using Nokia phones from the first day I started using cell phones and have not looked back. Mind you, I have used other cell phones, like Motorola and Audiovox. But I find Nokia to be the easiest to use. Here is why I say so.

For one thing, all Nokia phones have similar menu options and shortcuts. If you want to lock the phone’s keypad, for example, you simply press “Menu” + the “*” sign. The menu options are easy to navigate and not confusing. Most of their phones are light-weight and quite affordable. And since last year Nokia has introduced flip phones with camera, a move I think they should have made years ago. But as the saying goes – “Better late than never.” Nokia accessories are also easy to get and there is a wide variety of them.

Nokia phones are also one of the most widely distributed cell phones in the world. They have been world leaders for many years running and are increasingly becoming the choice of many cellular service providers in many countries. Jamaica and the Caribbean in general, Europe, Asia, the United States, and Great Britain are fast becoming a seeding ground for Nokia cellular phones. No wonder they are the best, and that is why I like using them over other phones. If you have a Nokia, you know exactly what I mean.

Modem-Enabled Cellular Phones and Internet

Many of the new cell phones that are being made today are modem-enabled. That means you can use the particular cellular phone as a modem by connecting it to your laptop (or even desktop) and be able to dial-up and access the internet. This is quite a powerful feature as not all areas have wireless internet and not all laptops have wireless networking connectivity. With a modem-enabled phone, one can go virtually anywhere and be able to access the internet, as long as coverage is in the area.

As technology gets more advanced, these cell phones become more sophisticated and are more powerful. And since some networks are teaming up to provide their customers with the best coverage possible, it is becoming increasingly easier to access the web using a modem-enabled phone almost anywhere you go. This is surely to the delight of the travelling public, business persons and otherwise, who need to have a reliable way of accessing the internet no matter where they are. This saves a lot of time and money and reduces frustration and stress levels. This may be despite the fact that dial-up is much slower than a T1 or LAN connection, but there are ISP’s who are now offering high-speed dial-up access to their users. Kudo’s to those guys!

Using a modem-enabled cellular phone to access the internet is not hard. Normally all you need is a Data Cable (generally USB) and the software for the Cable to be installed on your laptop (or desktop). Then you hook up the cell phone to the Cable and then the Cable to the computer. You would then have to configure your dial-up settings based on the information that your ISP provided. Select the cell phone as your modem and then when setup is finished, you can dial and start surfing away.

Top Ten Cellular Phones of 2006

What would you consider to be the all time top ten cellular phones of the year 2006? Ths list would have to include Motorola, Sony Ericsson, and Samsung cellular phones. To give your head a rest so that you do not have to think too hard, Wirefly announces the Top 10 cell phones of 2006. I generally agree with them, especially with the fact that the Motorola RAZR is the number one choice of consumers during 2006. In fact, the RAZR holds the top 3 positions! Quite impressive. Almost every 1 in 5 persons that I know and have seen on the street has one. It is a sleek cell phone, easy to carry, has a lot of features (I admire the Bluetooth capabilities), and comes in various colours to suit any individual. This gives consumers a wider choice to match their personalities.

The fourth in line is the Sony Ericsson z520a/z525a flip video phone which is nice and also has Bluetooth capabilities. Number five position goes to the Motorola v360, an affordable phone that can capture still and moving shots via an integrated VGA. I like that about it, in addition to its being light-weight. Then in the sixth position is the Motorola v276, another flip phone which I think is worth the money. Personally, its self-portrait ability catches my attention, with a self-timer and mirror located next to the lens. The auto repeat and auto lighting adjustment mechanism gets a thumbs up from me.

The 2006 top ten cell phone lineup is completed by the Motorola i850, Motorola i710, Motorola v220, and finally the Samsung T309. These are all nice cell phones, though Motorola would be my preference. Since customer orders put all the 10 phones in the order that they appear, it goes to show that consumers have good taste and are looking for technologically advanced features that make life much easier.

So, Motorola was the top brand phone for the year 2006 as its cell phones held 8 out of the top 10 positions. The list of the top ten cellular phones of 2006 surely says a lot about the popularity of Motorola cell phones.
