Frozen Account

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS Feed. If you subscribed before August 17, 2008, you will need to re-subscribe using the same link as the previous feed will soon no longer be operational. Thanks for visiting!

In banking, this refers to an account from which funds may not be withdrawn until a lien is satisfied and a court order is received freeing the funds. This means that no money from that particular account can be removed. It does not matter who the person or company is. Once the account is frozen, no money can be withdrawn. There are many reasons why an account would be frozen. Some include fraudulent activities like money laundering, or the account owner may be accused of a crime that, until the matter has been resolved in a court of law, prevents him from accessing his funds.

Frozen accounts are becoming more and more frequent especially in light of the worldwide crackdown on international crimes, drug lords, and terrorist organizations and individuals. Until proven that no involvement in criminal activities is present, the monies in any or all known bank accounts of the alleged perpetrators will be frozen.

Market Research

It is always good to check out the trends in the market from time to time. The things that you sell may at times lose momentum when buyers do not want a particular product at a particular time. Say for example you sell a new line of cotton coats. For a period of, let’s say, 3 weeks business booms with that product. Then another type of coat comes on the market and you do not stock them. What will happen is that your sales will plunge as the consumer would now go for the new coat.

A simple market analysis is all you need. Formulate a questionnaire that targets specific products that you sell. Then based on the feedback, you will know what you need to change, what you can keep, and who are willing to buy the new commodity. This will help to keep you in a profitable position for a long time.

Company Website

It cannot be overstated how good it is for any company to have a website. An online presence can greatly boost the effectiveness of your business reach. Consider it as an advertising medium. Once search engines get wind of your sites existence, they will send their spiders to crawl your website. If your SEO is up to scratch, you have a good chance of landing on the first page of search results for your keywords, within maybe the first 20 results.

In any case, a company website provides a professional touch to your business. It is an investment that you will not regret, as long as you make people aware of it. Many big businesses today were not always as big as they are today. They were once little known, like a needle in a haystack among the “big boys”. Now they are contentious rivals because of their websites. Customers can shop from the sites and have their orders delivered without even having to interact with a human. The process is usually quick and easy and the customer completes his order in minutes. That alone speaks for itself. A business website can greatly increase sales and make your business presence felt even more.

Money Market

The global financial market that facilitates short-term borrowing and lending is known as the Money Market . It provides money for short time periods that are borrowed or lend so as to give the borrower instant cash. The money market is a sector of the capital market where short-term items like as Treasury bills (T-bills), commercial paper and bankers’ acceptances are bought and sold, providing short-term liquid funding for the global financial system.

A money market consists mainly of financial institutions and dealers in money or credit who wish to either borrow or lend. Those who participate in it borrow and lend money for short periods of time, usually up to a period of one year and one month. The money market trades in short term financial instruments commonly called “paper”. This is in contrast with the capital market that offers longer-term funding, which is supplied by bonds and equity.

New Free Traffic Program

We all want traffic to come to our blogs so that our readership will increase and also our PR. There are many ways to send traffic to your blog, or website for that matter. These include search engine traffic, SEO optimization, and targeted E-mail marketing. There is now a hot new way to send tons of traffic to your blogs. John Reese, a well-known internet marketer, has released a brand new free traffic program that will send waves of traffic to your blog. It was recently launched and has been warmly welcomed by all who have tried it so far.

So how does this program work? Remember first of all that it is completely free, no strings attached. Here is how it works: You simply start by creating an account and placing a small piece of code on your blog (like in your sidebar). Each time a page that has this widget loads, it will refresh with 5 blog post titles along with the name of the blog or author, based on the user’s choice, along with a link to the full post and blog. The links will open in a new window so that it does not take the visitor to your blog away from the original blog page that is showing the widget.

The blog links will be from related blogs across the network. So if the category of your blog is “Business”, then only blogs related to “Business” will show in your widget. If someone should click on your widget and join the new free traffic program, the system will know exactly where they came from, thus permanently marking in the system the original blog from where the click came as the “referrer” for that new blog. The original blog now earns additional “syndication credit” on all the traffic that the referring blog produces, each and every day. Better yet, if that
new blog refers another user, that original blog then earns credits based on the new user as well. This effect continues through 10 “generations” of referrals with no limit to the number of blogs and/or traffic that can be produced by any level.

If you have a blog or blogs that are in desperate need of traffic, join the new free traffic program today. You will see a difference in your traffic levels in no time. An increased readership and higher PageRank ratings are all in store if you join now. Click here to read more about the program, see a video of how it works, and then sign up.

Business Tips: Have A Water Cooler In The Office

Ever visited an office, like the doctor of dentist, and was thirsty but there was no water to drink anywhere? Been there, done that. This situation can be quite uncomfortable for the person who needs the water. I think it is only common courtesy for offices to have water coolers, even if not for visitors but at least for the staff. From a logical point of view, having one would save time as employees would not have to go across the road or down to the canteen to buy water. They would simply go over to the cooler in the hallway or wherever it is placed, pull out a cup, fill it with water, and drink. Then back to their desks in seconds.

Visitors to an office should be as comfortable as possible. This will make them want to return at a later date. Just think about it. If your business place or office does not have a water cooler, even a simple one, you may just be losing customers and don’t even realize it. They will more readily go where they know that they can be refreshed. You do not have to buy an expensive one, just something within your means.

Time Tracking Book

There is a new book about time tracking out on the market that every business owner or manager should read. This is the objective of all business people, so this book about time tracking will surely help to inspire them.

In a nutshell, the book covers issues like complying with regulations, improving project estimates, and automating billing procedures. Cash Register Machines

There are very few business places that sell items that do not have a cash register machine. In the old days, when someone came to buy stuff from a shop, the proprietor would simply check off (in their heads) the cost for the items being bought. He would then tell the customer the cost who in turn would pay the shop keeper the said amount; after that he would drop the money in a pan. As technology increased, the cash register was developed. A little note from Wikipedia states:

The first cash register was invented by James Ritty, the owner of a saloon in Dayton, Ohio, USA, and wanted to stop employees from pilfering his profits. He invented the Ritty Model I in 1879 after seeing a tool that counted the revolutions of the propeller on a steamship. With the help of John Birch, he patented it in 1883. Ritty later … sold all of his interests in the cash register business to Jacob H. Eckert of Cincinnati … who formed the National Manufacturing Company. In 1884 Eckert sold the company to John H. Patterson, who renamed the company the National Cash Register Company. Patterson improved the cash register by adding a paper roll to record sales transactions, thus creating the receipt. 1906, while working at the National Cash Register company, inventor Charles F. Kettering designed a cash register with an electric motor.” - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cash_register#Origin

So, the cash register has a long history. The first ones had a handle that had to be pulled down each time an item was being cashed.

Then there came the ones that had keys that had on numbers which were pressed to enter the price. With the advent of electricity, electric cash registers came into being. It has now come down to more sophisticated ones where scanners are used to read bar codes on items and the price is automatically entered into the cash register. This helps to speed up the checkout process, compared to the former times when the price of every single item had to be punched into the machine manually. You can just imagine how long a person with over 100 items would take to get through checkout!

Some businesses opt not to go for cash registers, especially the small shop owner on the outskirts of town whose business may be slow and buying a cash register would not make any sense. Businesses that have a high volume of customers should have one though. It will surely make the lines moves faster.

Civil Unrest

Though this particular topic is not directly related to business operations, it can impact on ones ability to conduct business while it is in progress. Civil unrest, or civil disorder, is a disturbance that is caused by a group of people who are normally protesting against major socio-political problems. In this sense, you could even call it public outrage, examples of which are illegal parades, sit-ins, road blocks, riots, sabotage, and other forms of crime. It is intended to be a demonstration to the public and the government, but can at times escalate into general chaos and anarchy. During these times, many business places have to close so as to protect life and property.

As shown earlier, civil unrest takes various forms. There are times too when lives are lost or people become severely injured or harmed in other ways. Let us take a gas riot for example. The price of gas gets so high that people are unable to purchase gas. They get angry and thus mount road blocks and effectively force a shut down of business activities within a certain area, sometimes the entire country. This results in loss of millions of dollars in revenue and hundreds of hours of manpower time. This can cost a country a lot of money and may even bring it to its knees, almost at a breaking point. So, civil unrest does indirectly affect businesses, but depending on what the reason for it is, it can also directly affect them at times.
